Wasted a day before realizing the occasional 700us spikes were caused by nVidia card, so removed it. Now running 9 glxgears and 2 looping 1280x720 videos, watching YouTube? video in browser, and interacting with desktop via vncviewer over wifi, two hour test. Irq affinity and kernel options were tried but showed no extra gain, this configuration already worked well out of the box (when not loaded so heavily 7us was a more typical value).
