AXIS is intended to be a modern-looking user interface for EMC with preview and backplot. It is implemented primarily in Python, with the user interface rendered by Tk and OpenGL?. It is intended to be mostly keystroke-compatible with xemc and mini.

AXIS is developed by Jeff Epler and Chris Radek and is available under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

The official announcement and beta test release was made a day early, on December 4, 2004. Depending on the community's reaction to AXIS, integration into the emc or emc2 source tree may follow. A timeline for the 1.0 release is not yet set.

It may be integrated into the EMC2 tree at some future time.

In the meanwhile, here are some preliminary instructions for [Compiling Axis EMC2]?
