Hi all, it's time to have another election for the Board of Directors.
The first step is to have nominations. These take place on the emc-users list.
To make a nomination, please put NOMINATION in the subject of your message. Nominations must be seconded by another person to be considered; to second a nomination please put SECONDED in the subject. The nominated person should then accept or decline the nomination.
Let's start nominations now and run them through Jan 12 2009, 23:59:59 UTC.
Like last time, we'll have a wiki page where the nominees can write a bit about their experience and goals if they like:

The Board has asked Michael Cornelius to run the voting for us. Michael is not involved in the EMC project but he is a Free Software advocate in many ways and has graciously offered to help out (like he did last time). The Board will provide him a list of email addresses made from joining the lists of people receiving the emc-users and emc-developers emails.
He will send a ballot to each person and have a special email address set up to receive the votes. When voting closes he will report back the names of our new Board members. When the time comes he will give us all specific instructions about how to vote.
I wish good luck to the nominees, and give my sincere thanks to everyone on the lists who will participate in setting the future direction of the EMC project.

I started with emc in 2004 (feels like yesterday), and have been enjoying the ride since.
I have gathered some experience with the codebase of emc2 (not many areas I haven't touched), but also with the infrastructure for emc2 (built the kernel, rtai packages and LiveCD?'s for the official platforms - Ubuntu DapperDrake? and Ubuntu Hardy Heron).
I've been working on various parts of emc2 (IO control, spindle control, task, interpreter etc.), mainly for adding new features and cleaning out bugs.
Been taking care of the webpage at www.linuxcnc.org, announcing new releases and updating pages & translations. Likewise at sourceforge.
I am available on the irc channel most days and I spend some time helping new EMC users with not only EMC problems but also general Linux problems (on IRC, on the lists and a couple german places: forums & wikis).
While I am new to EMC I have been wanting to get an EMC distro up and running since EMC1. Then the Live CD came along. With some help from the EMC crew and some gentle nudging from Alex I was able to get up and going in 2007. Then I designed and built a CNC plasma cutting table while learning EMC and Linux.
I've written several of the g code generators on the wiki site while learning Python along the way. I'm currently studying C++ and that is going well. Plus adding a lot of content on how to configure and use different things with EMC.
With Alex's help again I started to work on the manuals to try and organize the information and add some new content aimed at the new user. The information was always there but for a Linux newbie it could be hard to find... well almost a year later and I think I've made some progress. I try to keep the newbie's perspective where needed and the seasoned integrators perspective where appropriate.
While everyone else is a seasoned EMC guy, the main thing I bring to the table is a fresh view point from a seasoned Windoz user and a Linux newbie...
I'm on the IRC almost every day and try and help on the Zone when I can. I have began to assist Alex with the EMC web page.
I've been involved with EMC for about 5 years now. Seems like a long time since the last Fest held at NIST (my first) :)
My main focus has been on HAL, both adding components and fiddling with halcmd. I enjoy taking part in discussions on how to improve EMC, including both technical improvements and the "user experience". I generally enjoy helping people on IRC or the mailing lists - it's always a charge when something finally clicks and things start to work.
I'm interested in getting EMC2 into wider use, both for machine tools (EMC2) and for other projects (HAL). I'm also planning on spending some time making a small install image (maybe for headless machines controlled over a network), making small ARM-based systems work, and hopefully fleshing out Jeff's work on making a POSIX RTAPI layer. (For those who don't know what I just said, that means "EMC that works on PCs with the stock realtime kernel instead of our RTAI-based one")
Lots of big ideas, and rarely enough time to get any of them done. But it's the journey, right? :)
