After the initial installation, prepare apt-get and install updated packages:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgradeThe "apt-get upgrade" step will download a large number of files, unless you've done it before.
Second, add new packages necessary to compile EMC2 and AXIS:
sudo apt-get install bwidget tk8.4-dev tcl8.4-dev python-dev git-core sudo apt-get install g++ gcc gcc-2.95 libncurses5-dev pciutils-dev sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev rtai-dev-`uname -r` sudo apt-get install xlibmesa-dev libxmu-dev linux-headers-`uname -r`This step will also download a large number of files. (The packages are split across several apt-get commands so that the text doesn't go off the side of a reasonably wide window; you can put all the package names on a single 'apt-get' command line if you prefer)
If any of the 'apt-get' steps prompts you to make a choice, the default is generally acceptable.
